I've been a fan of Laurel Halo since her 1st EP "King Felix", released in 2010 by Hippos in Tanks. So when i heard she had signed to Hyperdub, (UK label that includes Burial & Kode9 albums) i must say my curiosity transformed in excitement. "Quarantine", her 1st album released this year, filled my ears with joy.
Imagine Oneohtrix Point Never instrumentals with early Kate Bush vocals and you'll have an small idea of how it sounds.
It's closer to what she had done on her 1st EP and a change to her 2nd EP called "Hour Logic" which was more techno oriented. Her love of classical music sweats on all the tracks of the album, but you will also feel her passion for ambient-pop and her knowledge of electronic music (she spent her childhood near Detroit, birthplace of techno).
The multiple layers on "Quarantine" will make you hover in thin air, listen to "Airsick" or "Years" and you'll have to be moved by her vocals, beats and textures. Laurel Halo is definitely an UFA (Undefined Flying Artist) and believe me, we haven't seen half of what she's capable of doing.
